Tom Cruise, one of the biggest movie stars in the world, recently made history after smashing a record that no one predicted. Cruise, who has been acting for over four decades, holds an incredible box office record for being the only movie star with the most $100 million gross worldwide.

Ever since proving his worth as a lead actor in 1983’s Risky Business, Tom Cruise has delivered one box office hit after another. While Tom Cruise has only ever had one movie that has grossed over $1 billion (Top Gun: Maverick), at least 30 of Cruise’s films have made over $100 million worldwide. He’s the only movie star in the world with at least 30 $100 million titles under his belt.

Thanks to his latest stunt at the Paris Olympics, Tom Cruise can add another record to his impressive resume. On Sunday, August 11, 2024, Cruise performed a jaw-dropping stunt during the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

However, the most talked-about part of the stunt was not performed live but pre-recorded in March 2024, when he made history after breaking an unforeseen record. The stunt involved the Olympic handoff from Paris to Los Angeles, which saw the 62-year-old actor scale down the Stade de France and carry the Olympic flag to Los Angeles.

According to NBC, Part of the handoff, which included a pre-taped video of Tom Cruise’s plane ride from Paris to Los Angeles, where he rode a motorcycle to the Hollywood sign, was recorded back in March 2024.

In the video, the iconic Hollywood sign is decorated with recognizable Olympic rings. Jeff Zarrinnam, Chairman of the Hollywood Sign Trust, told NBC that in performing the stunt, Tom Cruise was able to do something that no actor had ever done before.

Jeff Zarrinnam said this is the first time in history that an actor actually touched the Hollywood sign. “Normally, when there’s filming done up here, no one is allowed to touch the Hollywood sign,” he added.

While Tom Cruise is yet to win an Oscar, he can add this amazing accomplishment to his resume.
