The movie was released in the nation last month, and it broke one box office record for Nolan in the overseas market. The movie is based on the life of American theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer. It was not only critically praised but was a commercial success as well. It earned close to a billion at the worldwide box office. The film features Cillian Murphy in the titular role with Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and others in the supporting cast. Downey, Nolan, and Murphy won every award this season. However, the film’s subject was a sensitive matter in Japan since they were the victims who suffered the bombings.
The movie was ultimately released in Japan after around eight months, and it surprisingly is welcomed there. Oppenheimer opened to $2.5 million in Japan as per Box Office Mojo. Now, according to Collider’s report, it earned a decent $1.6 million on its second weekend from 343 screens. Nolan’s movie has accumulated $5.5 million in Japan, taking the overseas total to $640.1 million, trumping the director’s The Dark Knight Rises’ international collection by a significant margin.

The Dark Knight Rises was Christopher Nolan’s highest-earning movie in the international box office for the past 12 years, but it has now changed. It collected $634 million overseas. Meanwhile, the recent collections from Japan have taken the gross total of Oppenheimer to $970 million globally.
