English star Matt Smith has carved a remarkable path in entertainment with his diverse talents and charismatic presence. He is best known for his portrayal of the Eleventh Doctor in the iconic television series ‘Doctor Who’ & Prince Daemon Targaryen in the House of the Dragon series.
He is now one of the most popular actors and enjoys a massive fanbase across the world. But popularity also has a negative side. While actors undoubtedly turn into crowds of fans, being surrounded or hackled by them is not always fun.
In a conversation with MTV UK, Matt Smith vividly recounted a distressing encounter with an overly zealous fan while on a movie set. The fan’s aggressive behavior included an unwelcome kiss and derogatory name-calling. Sitting alongside Douglas Booth as they promoted their 2016 film ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,’ Smith openly shared the unsettling incident. Fortunately, Smith’s security team swiftly intervened, escorting the persistent fan away, even as she hurled derogatory epithets at him.

He said, “I came out of the set, and I walked out, and there was a woman there with a picture or a poster of a hedgehog. And she said, ‘You look like this hedgehog,’ and then she tried to kiss me but really, really aggressively. And then security had to pick her up, but she just kept screaming the word hedgehog.”
Undoubtedly, the experience left Matt Smith far from amused. Despite his outward smile and laughter during the interview, the actor appeared visibly uncomfortable while recounting the incident.
Smith’s journey into the world of entertainment took an interesting turn. Initially harboring dreams of becoming a professional footballer, he was forced to abandon his athletic ambitions due to spondylolysis. His first foray into television occurred in 2006 when he portrayed Jim Taylor in the BBC adaptations of Philip Pullman’s “The Ruby in the Smoke” and “The Shadow in the North.”
Matt Smith’s major breakthrough in television came in 2007 when he assumed the role of Danny in the BBC series ‘Party Animals.’ Smith’s most iconic portrayal emerged as he became the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ from 2010 to 2013, making history as the youngest actor to take on this iconic character. In the realm of film, he has showcased his versatility by playing a dual role in ‘Womb’ (2010), embodying the physical forms of Skynet in ‘Terminator Genisys’ (2015), portraying the 1960s character Jack in ‘Last Night in Soho’ (2021), and recently taking on the role of the living vampire Lucien/Milo Morbius in ‘Morbius’ (2022).
