Britney Spears is making the headlines owing to the shocking revelations that have been mentioned in her memoir, The Woman in Me. While Spears’ fans will be heading to stores to pick up her book tomorrow, a clip showing her auditioning for Nick Cassavetes’ The Notebook has been shared online. For the film, the ‘Toxic’ singer gave an emotional and teary two-and-a-half-minute long audition, and it happened just months after her ex-Justin Timberlake ended their three-year relationship with a text message.

Based on Nicholas Sparks’ 1996 novel of the same name, the film starred Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allison ‘Allie’ Calhoun. The romantic drama received much love upon its release and earned several accolades, including the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss.

The 2 minutes, 33 seconds clip – shared by DailyMail on Youtube, sees Britney Spears looking simple – dressed in a slightly tight (a giveaway owing to the space between the buttons) white top with a lace trim around its neckline, a white camisole beneath and her hair down. It has the pop star reading through a scene with Ryan Gosling, who is standing off-camera. As the “…Baby One More Time’ singer continues delivering the emotional dialogue, the singer slowly tears up, making our hearts ache.

The scene Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears were reading had the singer saying, “I’m not staying. I tried to call you to tell you that I wasn’t going to stay – but nobody answered the phone.” Struggling to maintain eye contact as she informs her on-screen lover that she is going ahead with her plans to marry another man, Brtiney continues, “Noah, you can’t marry two people. And I’m marrying Lon, so I should go, okay?”

Tearing up thereafter, we hear the ‘Oops!…I Did It Again’ tell Ryan Gosling, “I prayed for you to die in the war, really. Well not die. I would have felt completely horrible if you would die. But I kinda didn’t want you to be alive anymore because I couldn’t bear the thought of you being with somebody else, or of us never seeing each other again. So I gotta go, okay?” Check out Spears’ audition tape here:

According to casting director Matthew Berry, Britney Spears’ raw and emotional performance ‘blew away’ the movie’s producers. Recalling the August 18, 2002 audition, he said, “Britney wasn’t just good – she was phenomenal,’ before adding, “It was a tough decision. Britney blew us all away. Our jaws were on the floor.” He said that Britney beat out several top female actresses, including Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, Kate Bosworth, Amy Adams, Jamie King, and Mandy Moore.
